The legacy of The Dell Music Center as a hotbed of entertainment in Philadelphia continues to reverberate today, nearly a decade after its opening.
The open-air theater located in East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia was founded in 1929 as the home of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Seating 6,000 guests, this venue has seen its fair share of legendary performances throughout its rich history.
The names that have graced its stage read like the timeline of music history: Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson, The Ojay’s, Natalie Cole; Gladys Knight, Frankie Beverly, Sheila E., and Robin Thicke, just to name a few.
The “Essence of Entertainment” era began in 1972, with the summer concert series which includes shows from performers from around the world.
The Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department, who manages the venue, turned to Synergetic to manage the sound engineering for every concert in 2018 as well as the many other events held at The Dell throughout the year.
When Synergetic met with The Dell, The Dell wanted something that sounded better than what was being used. Synergetic knew that the d&b audiotechnik PA would be the perfect choice. And as soon as the team at The Dell heard the full system, they knew they made the right choice with Synergetic.
“The look on their faces when they heard the fully tuned PA made me know they were happy,” Dan Arbelaez, Project Manager for Synergetic at The Dell, said. “The V series was the perfect box for this application. We needed something compact, that could still deliver a big, full range sound from the stage to the last seat and the V-Series did just that.”
Synergetic deployed 24 D&B V-Series cabinets, as well as 16 V-Series Subs and 4 J-infra Subs in a sub arc. The entire rig is powered off of 8 D-80 amplifiers, which offer unbelievable power efficiency. When the full rig is tuned and at peak performance, the PA draws about 50 amps.
The team at The Dell is not only incredibly happy with the upgraded sound system, but also with the level of attention they are getting from the Synergetic team. With a dedicated project manager handling all the acts and a properly staffed technician team for show day, Synergetic can offer a lot of attention that they were missing.
“We try and make sure our customer doesn’t have to work too hard to get the right attention,” Jason Weldon, President and CEO of Synergetic, said. “It is important to me that we get the people side of this business and not just the technical side.”
Synergetic looks forward to helping The Dell host many events for the years to come.
