Head of Lighting – Synergetic

About the Role

This is not just a job running lights. This role oversees the lighting department at Synergetic, which includes lighting, rigging, electrics, soft goods, and occasionally staging. We are looking for someone who wants to turn this into a long-term career and help build systems, structure, and trust within the department.

This is a leadership position inside a fast-moving live events company. You will need to balance shop operations, show support, inventory management, technician development, equipment maintenance, and communication across departments.

For the first few months, this role will feel overwhelming. There is a lot to learn, and it will likely take at least three months before you feel comfortable. We will support you and help you succeed, but this is not a position where someone can be babysat or constantly reminded to do their job.

We need someone who is invested in the future of the company and willing to help improve it over time.

What Success Looks Like

The person in this role will be successful in several areas:

• Leading a small team of technicians
• Organization of a department
• Programming on MA consoles
• Using Vectorworks effectively
• Strong general lighting knowledge
• Experience managing inventory systems in Flex Rental Solutions

Operational Responsibilities

This role will involve:

• Building and maintaining QC schedules
• Managing firmware updates
• Cable QC
• Overseeing repair workflows
• Managing new equipment intake
• Ensuring proper accessories, clamps, cases, and support items are included with purchases
• Helping determine what gear should be purchased versus rented
• Training technicians on equipment and workflow
• Holding classes and bringing in outside experts when beneficial
• Scheduling shop labor and assigning tasks effectively

This is not a fully hands-off management position. You will sometimes need to do the work yourself while also managing others and keeping projects on schedule and on budget.

Strong time management is essential.

Busy Seasons

Our busiest periods are:

• Late April through May
• September through October

During these periods, flexibility and commitment are essential. This role requires someone who can recognize heavy weeks ahead of time, prepare accordingly, and be available when the workload demands it.

Compensation

For the properly qualified candidate, this role will have a total compensation rate of up to $90,000.
